Hi GPLDI
I would really like to share to our plugins on gpldl as a reward.
Sharing is caring
Thanks

true. Nonetheless we need to ensure for our users that they get originals and not some nulled plugins or nulled themes that may contain malware or have been modified. It is impossible to be sure about this if we do not get anything right from the source ourselves.
So your ideas is something that we very much like and thought about as well. Unless we will cannot ensure the authenticy in integrity of files we will not implement it.

As long as, you stand on the last defend line before it published should be ok.
Another method is made a exchange roo, for everyone so community can exchange with each other.
Thanks

Just my to cents on this topic.
July 1, 2016 at 10:44 am #17417Brian RiceParticipantYeah, I would not download if it wasn’t strictly curated by trusted admins. But possibly the site could be opened up to trusted moderators to share the burden.
For instance, I have an elegant themes account. I could (if had the time) monitor those themes and plugins.
BTW, I am curious if the cheapskates that are downloading are donating to the website?
I assume this is very time consuming and your time needs to be paid for somehow, unless you’re ultra-rich and doing this strictly for philanthropic reasons.
July 3, 2016 at 1:56 pm #174227h3hKeymasterThanks for your input guys and that great discussion how to make GPLDL better. A lot of the things that you mentioned here are right and do apply but let me answer some of the points in detail.
Security is always first: Saying that, we will not accept anything that is not 100% bullet proof from anyone who we cannot 100% trust. We will not use any nulled stuff from some dark corners on the web just to extend the catalog. We like what we have right now, everything is as secure as it can get and we are not in a rush to change things. We are on the other hand very much interested in ways how we can open up to let users participate actively and share their 100% GPL Themes and Plugins. Unfortunately we could not find a way to allow this without taking on a security risk, which is – as said out of question. Brian’s idea to allow trusted moderators may be something worth considering under very strict selection criteria.
One more thing: Curating the latest updates is indeed a time consuming process especially since we have to manage a lot of accounts with various developers (lots of sources to manage). Fortunately our time does not need to be paid for, since the whole site is strictly built for philanthropic reasons and we enjoy providing WordPress items especially to those who are curious to try something new and those who cannot afford to pay for a license anyway. All the donations we receive go directly into maintaining the site and growing the catalog.
July 27, 2016 at 7:19 am #17640Jack RubiParticipantOn the other hand, while this is a great repository, a lot of plugins here are outdated, some by a year or more. You could increase the amount of contributors and verify that the code has been untouched.
WPMUDEV for example, hardly ever updates their plugins. Yet some of the ones on here are obsolete and broken because they have are far behind the current release.August 4, 2016 at 2:28 am #17666Adrian TeoParticipantI just pop up an idea.
I know it is quite risky to let user to share the plugin directly but how about share their account directly with the moderator?
This can eliminate the risk but also reward to contributor by giving them unlimited download access to the site.
I think this is a Win-Win solution to the site and the user.
Hope you guys think about it.
September 24, 2016 at 11:15 am #17907WakikiParticipantNot sure it’s an OK thing to share accounts.. user could have private data or info authorised Paypal integrations on their account. So this is sensitive.
September 30, 2016 at 12:43 pm #17923tim typmanParticipantThere must be a place we can share plugins if we want. Why not upload them to any of the upload sites and post them here with links? It can be up to us if we trust the person or not. My bet is a few Sharers will rise to the occasion and become very trusted sources.
My hope is they have Divi stuff.
Oh, and…. Anyone have some Shopify themes (I know. I hate it too)?
