Hi everyone
First of all. Thank you for creating a website with all these stuffs that you put available to download. Very thankful.
Secondly, As im newbie i have got some questions about updates for both themes and plugins
Let’s suppose, I have got installed iThemes Security with many features enabled… So i see a new update, what shall i do? Downloading the plugin again means to have uninstall the older version as I need install the new one, right?? then, what about features enabled on the older version? Will I get lose? Is there any way to perform an update/upgrade just a little easier?
In the same way, I thought for themes, If Im using Divi theme.. so its coming an update.. uninstall older one for install newer one? What about customizations? and so on
Sorry for my ignorance on this kind of procedures but its the first time in my career in wordpress that i will be performing something similar as i do usually updates from wordpress dashboard
Hoping your understanding
Thanks for the help that you can provide. It will very valuable for me and other ones who have the same doubts.
Regards
Theme and plug-in settings are stored in the database. Almost all plugins and themes keep all their settings upon deactivating and removal. In fact, removal just simply removes the files.
Plugins like iThemes Security, JetPack and WP Super Cache do partial database pruning because they need to or they will break the installation if they do not remove those modifications upon removal. However, most plugins do not do anything to the database when deactivated.
Thank you for your answer Jack
Ok, and in the same way i guess it happens with themes right? What about with customizations (Fonts, Styling)?
It looks like to be updated from beginning after installing your new theme in order to leave it as it was previously. That is what i guess. Am i right?
Thank you for your help and advise
