It is interesting that you feel tricked into something… That is surely not the intention of GPLDL. We set up the site to share with the world and make as much available as we can get. So asking for donations to keep the lights on and even add some new items sounded like a reasonable approach to us. Let us know how you would suggest to generate the necessary revenues?
